Food Tour Part 7: Best Food around West Coast

Cos I am having some problems focusing for the exams, I thought I would do some quick easy food posts. (I do eat even though I am quite stressed up studying! Maybe I end up eating more. Oops) Haha.

And guess my sponsors also need some assurance that this blog is still up and running and that their posts will definitely be up once my exams are over... Whee~~~ Will be showing some good food around West Coast this time!

I have been living here half my life and I never knew about this place until my BF told me about this. Unfortunately, it is under renovation now. And this is so terrbile because I have been craving for the Claypot Mee Tai Bak every rainy day ever since.

Some of the food I have tried so far were the Salted Egg Pork Ribs and the Spinach with Trio Eggs. That day I was there, I saw many people having the Oyster Omelette. Should have stuff myself full. Now I am just regretting. When they reopen, do try them out. The price is reasonable and the food is good.

This Mee Pok always have a darn long queue during lunch so please go there early. It doesn't really taste like the normal Mee Pok we are used to (Made by Japanese by the way). I find the vinegar taste stronger than the normal Mee Pok. My family always support this store because they are generous with the ingredients. :D

I have pretty much tried everything on the menu (yea, I am a huge fan.) and most of them are really good. If you want the other normal mee pok, the shifu's store is the best ever. It is just near-by too at Blk 501 West Coast Drive! (Guess all the best Mee Pok is at West Coast hahaha)

I guess by now you are know I love my pratas. So when this Prata shop newly open, I immediately made my way there to try it out. Haha. And mind you, this cafe is usually very crowded (especially in the evenings!) The price is kinda of expensive but I like the variety. (I have yet to finish everything on the menu yet!)

I mostly tabao away. But when I do sit in, I really like the ambience. It is kinda of noisy (Kopi-diam with aircon feel haha). And plus point, the owners are very nice and always attention to detail. Do try them out! (But if you see me in the queue, let me go first, after all I recommend you one OK!)

Healthy Scalp with 99 Percent Hair Studio

For quite a while I have been tolerating an itchy scalp. It was so bad till I just kept scratching it till my scalp would hurt when I bathed. Initially, I thought it was just the weather. But Google was one cruel search engine and made me kinda it was lice! T.T

So when I had a hair appointment with 99 Percent Hair Studio, I thought it would be a good idea to treat my scalp first (God knows what was wrong with it.) and in the the meanwhile share with you guys more about scalp hair care.

Some of you may think that if you have scalp issues, the only places you can go are Yun Nam, Beijing 101 etc. who hardsell you and insist you are balding. But there are actually options of hair salons (not all though) who also provide treatment for your scalp if you want to save yourself from the earbleed. (>.<)

99 Percent Hair Studio has a few outlets but I went to the one at Orchard Central. (Will write on the other outlets next time) The salon was very spacious and bright. Suzanna was my stylist and she was so patient and nice, explaining me to me each and every step. (By the way, I would really recommend her if you are visiting 99 Percent Hair Studio.)

There are 2 treatments available: Precise Care Treatment ($ 89) and Exclusive Care Treatment ($ 169). To help you make your choice, usually we will start off with the Exclusive Hair Treatment for 2-3 times (depending on severity) to make sure the scalp is clean before we can move on to precise care treatment for maintenance. For me, I also started off with the Exclusive Hair Treatment.

The first thing we had to do before we start the treatment proper was to scan my scalp so that I can understand my scalp condition better. Thankfully for me, I didn't have lice! Neither did I have senstive scalp (Your scalp will be red if so) It was just an issue of an oily scalp. Will show you guys the disturbing pictures later :P

The first step was a minty, refreshing scrub to remove the cuticle. And it smells so good too. What surprised me was that the particles were finer than my face scrub. The scrub was massaged into my head and left to set for 5 minutes so that it will soften the stubborn cuticle.

After that, my hair was shampooed twice. Once with normal shampoo to remove any debris and the second time with a scalp care shampoo. Look at all the cuticles from my hair. Gross! Glad to have them removed for good! My scalp now finally feels it has been deep cleansed. :P

The second step was a scalp treatment to strengthen my scalp. It was massaged into my hair and left to set for 15 minutes. Unlike other salons, there was no use of steamer to enhance the absorption and reduce hair damage. It was rinsed out with using cold water. (Yikes forgot to take photos of this...)

The last step was the ampoule to strengthen my mane and prevent hair loss.  It was a minty tonic which you had to leave on your head for 24 hours. When my hair was wet, serum was also applied to give my hair the shine and lustre. After my hair blow dried, primer was added to reduce the frizz.

We did a final scan and you can see that my hair follicles are no longer blocked with oil! The whole treatment lasted about 2 hours, so the biscuits served were real handy cos halfway I was starving. Haha.

For some of you who may be wondering the about the difference between Exclusive Care Treatment and Precise Care Treatment, basically the latter has one less step. For Precise Care Treatment, you will make a choice between Step 1 and Step 2 . All other steps remain intact. The recommended treatment frequency is monthly, but of course this would depends on your scalp condition.

Suzanna was really nice and even gave me temporary curls for the day (which my friends told me was gorgeous!) So does it mean we should try out curls next?!? I felt so beautiful, I was stepping photos (yea in the collage) as I walking down the streets. #Bimbo #HealthyHairBeautyMane

Hahaha, and I am glad to report my scalp is no longer itchy! Yea, I am very relieved that the treatment worked and was not a mere temporary relief.  I am sure given the weather so of you may be facing the same itchy scalp issue as me. Hopefully this post helps and have given you more insights and options to what you can do to help yourself :D

Hidden Gem: Goldleaf Resturant

The weather has been wet and cold lately. So I thought I am obliged to share with you guys some good comfort food. If you would like a taste of home, something light, something simple but very very delicious, you should really check out Goldleaf Restaurat.

It is a hidden gem at Amoy Street, serving Taiwanese Tze-Char. There is free-flow of rice and porridge. But I would really suggest the sweet potato porridge. If you are lucky, you might even have 2 chunky potatoes in your bowl!

Generally, I think you can follow my orders because I made really good choices. I was only disappointed with at most 2 dishes max. The rest, I am practivally raving about them.

  • Goldleaf Prawn Rolls ($9.80) - For me, this is a pass. It is not bad. It is just average. And i have tasted better!
  • Er Chye (Taiwan Lettuce) ($10) - Honestly, I am never eaten this vegetable anywhere else before. It is so addictively delicious, even though it was kinda of oily.
  • Chye Por Omelette ($10) - If you chee kueh and the dried radish, you should order one. Chye Por is really hard to self-make, so this is probably one dish you can't make it yourself.

If you need something good for the eyes, instagram and stomach, don't miss out the Goldleaf Pork Ribs ($18), it was so frigging good. The sauce was savory and the meat was plentiful! And it is amazing with the porridge (Did I tell you u i had 3 bowls! OMFG!)

This would have been easily been the best meat dish there, until I tried the 3 Cup Chicken. ($15) The thing is I ever had 3 Cup Chicken, and I didn't have my mind blown. But I saw every table ordering one and so I caved in to the recommendations.

And you know what, you shouldn't leave without having it. Even if 2 meat dishes are too much, you must also eat it. This is one dish you can smell the fragrance of it till it makes you droll. (It was my last mains by the way but I still made tummy for it!)

The chicken was so tender and the zap (gravy) was so delicious! I could probably eat plain porridge with the sauce. It is pure gold. Actually, it leans towards the salty side, but it was so flavourful and yummy I just drank it like soup! Hahaha!

And seafood lovers, you can try the crab and the fish. I didn't try them out but given the other quality, I am sure they are brilliant as well. But what I did try was the Seafood Beancurd ($8) You can eat it on its own or with the sauce. The sauce is really good, so good you could eat it on its own as a dish too.

Instead of free peanuts, you can free tofu with ikan bilis and yellow beans. It is very different but I feel very value for money (like got a free main like that...haha) Oh and do try out the Oyster Mee Sua. ($10) Annoyingly, they always sell out in the afternoon, now you know when to go.

Thought you might want to know, the drinks at Goldleaf Restaurant are handmade ($3.50 per glass). I would strong recommend Plum Juice. Desserts choices are a bit limited with Yam Paste ($5) and Herbal Jelly ($4.50). The Yam Paste standard was top notch. But the herbal jelly tasted kinda of like Grass Jelly. Hmm.

Personally, I think this place is under-rated. Hope you all enjoy this secret share of mine. See you all soon :P

Fall in Love with Rouge Jewelry

Just in case you guys don't know, there are a few things trending right now, and they are flamingo, pineapples and cactuses if you are into quirky. If you are into sweet and classy, den you should long earrings that don't dangle.

And so to keep you ladies in trend, I thought I should introduce you to Rouge Jewelry. In the nice, pretty boxes, you will find lots of cute earrings and accessoreis that will make you want to fly to Bangkok immediately. Fortunately for you and me, they ship internationally.

And tada, I have been wearing them quite frequently with my dress from Spruce. (Read the other post here!) Cos they look so good together. Pineapple for something more causal and Pearl Stars for something more dainty! (By the way, do you know pineapples actually mean money come in Hokkien *Auspicious to the Singaporean locals much!)

If you have been following me on my Instagram, you would know I have been wearing these earrings ridiculously lot! I wear it when it doesn't match. Initally I thought the pearl bracelets might make my wrist look thick cos it was so thin. But surprise, surprise, it made them look leaner! <3

By the way, my birthday was not too long ago, can you spot Rouge Jewelry's stuff among the midst? And psst, they have flamingo earrings too. Damn cute. Do check out their Instagram to fall in love and break your wallet? Can we have cactus too already, pretty please?
